Between desire and frustration invites reflection on emotions such as desire and frustration. Though they may seem contradictory, they often coexist and complement each other. The frustration of not fulfilling a desire at first can heighten the satisfaction of achieving it later. This interplay of emotions encourages us to reconsider the accelerated pace of everyday life and to broaden our perspective on living itself. To truly understand these feelings, we must pause and observe how achievements, driven by desire, have been built over time. Despite the frustrations that may arise along the way, the outcomes we attain help us grow as individuals and teach us to value experience.
The work combines cosmetic containers to create unusual and unexpected shapes. By stripping away the original graphic information and merging the containers, the shapes become sealed, decontextualised objects that drift away from their origins. Metaphorically, they allude to products with limited effectiveness that appeal more through their aesthetic qualities than through their content. The texts applied to the surfaces of the pieces include a selection of superlative adjectives, the definitions of the words “desire” and “frustration,” and the repeated use of these same words at varying scales. The saturation of text refers to external influences, those that provoke desire or generate frustration.
All elements of the installation were produced during my participation in the Silk Floss Winter Residency Program in Foshan (China). The technical process itself also became a fusion of desires and frustrations, as I worked with materials and formats unfamiliar to me. Nevertheless, these challenges have helped me expand my vision to the world and have contributed to my professional and personal growth.
