Screen-printed decals and ceramic pencils on Dehua porcelain Installation dimensions: 20,5 ×160 × 5 cm
This work invites reflection on aesthetic violence and the pressure many women face to maintain a youthful appearance and conform to prevailing beauty standards. The installation consists of 33 replicas of cosmetic containers, each featuring the same image repeated and deconstructed. Accompanying them are phrases written in Chinese that refer to common cosmetic surgery procedures.
These elements are inspired by the American television series Nip/Tuck, in which the physical appearance of most female characters is relentlessly questioned. The male protagonists, who run a cosmetic surgery clinic, repeatedly position themselves as saviours, offering to eliminate what is considered “imperfect.” Through this reference, the work highlights the normalisation of unattainable beauty ideals and the mechanisms through which they are transmitted.
